Just like an image produced by the dentist or doctor, industrial radiography can produce pictures of virtually any material that allows us to see inside the sample being inspected. RT uses ionizing electromagnetic radiation to inspect a sample for surface and subsurface discontinuities by using the capability of short wavelength electromagnetic radiation, x-rays and gamma radiation, to penetrate various materials. The result is a two-dimensional projection of the sample onto the film, producing radiograph of varying film darkness (densities) according to the amount of radiation reaching each area. The resulting radiograph can then be interpreted for discontinuity identification.
